Easing into 2025
Small Acts, Big Shifts
The holidays left me feeling disconnected, but as we step into 2025, I’m reminded of this: small acts can reignite connection and momentum.
Like many, I approached the end of the year hoping for a break. I set up 12 holiday-themed posts to auto-publish, thinking I’d give myself space to rest. But what I really did was disconnect myself from something that’s been keeping me grounded—posting here, sharing, and connecting. By trying to step back, I inadvertently created more distance from a source of energy and meaning in my life.
Without work, I’ve realized just how much of my creative energy has always gone into what I do. Problem-solving, strategizing, crafting content, and designing ways to connect with people have all been central to my sense of satisfaction and momentum. Work wasn’t just a job for me; it was a key part of my identity. And without it, I’ve felt the absence deeply.
Over the holidays, I found myself hibernating—both literally and emotionally. I spent a lot of time under a blanket, avoiding calls and messages, and rewatching movies I’d seen a dozen times. I felt stuck, waiting for the spark to return. But then, something shifted. Writing and sharing a LinkedIn post reminded me of how much energy I draw from creativity and connection. A phone call from an old friend added another spark. Together, these small acts helped me begin climbing out from under the blanket, one step at a time.
This space—writing, sharing, and connecting—has become one of several outlets I’ve leaned on this past year to fill the creative and connective gap left by work. It’s not the same, but it’s something. It’s reminded me how powerful small acts can be.
Whether it’s writing, calling a friend, or simply stepping outside for fresh air, these small acts can help shift your perspective and spark new energy. Starting the year slow doesn’t mean starting it wrong. Small acts add up, and those shifts will carry us forward into the year ahead.
For me, those acts are rooted in creativity and connection. For you, they might look different. But they matter. They can reignite energy and momentum when we need it most.
Here are a few things that have helped me:
Make a call. Sometimes, just hearing someone’s voice reminds you that you’re not alone.
Move your body. Go for a walk. Stretch. Dance like nobody’s watching. It won’t fix everything, but it might shift how you feel, even just a little.
Change your scenery. Take your laptop to a coffee shop, sit outside, or work from a different room. A change of surroundings can change your mindset.
Focus on one thing. When everything feels overwhelming, pick one small task. Just one. And then do it.
Rest without guilt. Sometimes the best thing you can do is nothing at all. Let yourself recharge.
None of this is groundbreaking. It’s not meant to be. The point is to find what works for you—something small that reminds you you’re still moving forward, even if it doesn’t feel like it right away.
If you’re feeling stuck today, be kind to yourself. You don’t have to get it all done or figure it all out at once. Just take one small step when you’re ready.
We’ll get there, one step at a time.
